Welfare Services

  • Individual or personal services in connection with sickness, domestic problems, employment problems, elderly and retired employees.
  • Group services such as sports and social activities, clubs for retired employees and benevolent organizations.

Personal Services

These services aim to help individuals to help themselves. Those services should be provided when a need is established, and a welfare need exists when it is clear that help is required. In the organizational setting, an essential element in personal services is confidentiality.

  • Sickness

Here, provide help and advice to employees absent from work for a long period due to illness. Because of that organization helps to speed the return of the employee to work.

In addition as a medical service, they reimburse employees medical claims, provide medical insurance keys, Hold clinics ( monthly or annually), establish a medical center with a doctor and a pharmacy in the work promises, etc.

  • Bereavement

This is a situation when many people need all the help and advice they can get. Also, this often extended to help with funeral arrangements and dealing with probate matters.

  • Domestic Problems

Those are the least likely areas for employee welfare services. A counseling service could be provided by company staff or through an employee assistance program.

  • Employment Problem

Employee problems should normally be solved by discussing with individuals, their managers, and team leaders, or through the company’s grievance handling procedure. If the employees want to talk to a third party, such counseling talks as a means of relieving feelings and helping people to work through their problems for themselves can do a lot of good. But at the same time, they should protect the confidentiality of the discussion and they should not cut across line management authority.

  • Elderly and Retired Employees

Some organizations have made special provisions for elderly employees by setting aside jobs or work areas for them. Retired employees, normally those with long service periods deserve the continuing interest of their former employer. Sick visiting can be carried out continuously.

Group Welfare Services

These services mainly consist of restaurants, sports, social clubs, and nursery facilities.

Company restaurant facilities are desirable in any reasonably sized establishment.

For sports and social clubs, the company should provide reasonable support. Those social clubs are run by paternalistic companies. An investment in special facilities should be made only if there is a real likelihood of their being used regularly by a large proportion of employees.

Childcare or nursery facilities have real value as a means of attracting and retaining parents who would not otherwise be able to work full-time or part-time basis.
